Theory #1; Wilden is the beach hottie. I think he found out that Ali was pregnant with his child, and obviously didn't want to be involved. He didn't have the intention of killing her but that's just how it worked out. I also think he is part of the NAT club. He's working at the police department on Ali's case to literally protect himself from any evidence that comes in. At Ali's funeral he was questioning and pounding the girls for what they knew because he was scared that the investigation was now in full force and needed to see if they suspected him in the slightest. That's why he seems so excited when the biology notebook ends up at the station because that's one less piece of evidence that he needs to worry about.
Theory #2; Ezra is the beach hottie. He was around that party age where he could spend a summer away somewhere having a good time with some teenagers. He was just in college looking for his first committed teaching job. He could easily have gotten Ali pregnant, he had obviously been there before with Maggie. He didn't want to go through that again and didn't want to get his mother involved. So he took care of business on his own. Besides, there never was an explanation why Ezra was at Ali's funeral.. Maybe he wanted to say some final farewells to his baby mama.
